Consumer Price Index in BC rises 1.8% in September

BC residents complain at the best of times when it comes to car insurance, but they will have even more reason to complain after September’s Consumer Price Index.

Kyle De Marche with Stats Canada says the province had the highest increase in Canada. “They have gone up 5.9% since last year in BC where the Canada level only saw a 0.2% gain.”

Food purchases in BC saw a sharp drop with cereal products decreasing 7.4% while fruits and vegetables declined by 4.4% and 2.6% respectively.

BC’s Consumer Price Index for September rose 1.8% which is a decline of 0.2% from August.

Canada’s CPI rose 1.3% in the past 12 months following a gain of 1.1% in August.

Residents in BC are also paying an extra 3.6% in gasoline over the past year.
