Cougars victorious over Royals in Mental Awareness game

The minds were definitely for the Cariboo Cougars as they skated past the South Island Royals 4-1 on Saturday from Kin 1 during their Mindright Mental Awareness game.

Bryson Hines opened the scoring for the Royals taking advantage of a Cougars turnover making it 1-0.

South Island kept the lead after 20 minutes thanks to the play of goalie Connor Cheyne who made 14 saves in the period.

Cariboo eventually cracked the ice in the second thanks to a great power move by Reid Perepeluk tying the game at 1.

Devin Sutton put the Cougars ahead for good capitalizing on some great efforts by Craig MacDonald and Riley Krane.

The Cougars cranked up the pressure in the third with two more markers from Joel Patsey and Daine Dubois.

Marcus Allen picked up 15 saves for Cariboo who wore special green and white jerseys for the occasion.

South Island was outshot 38-16.

Jacob Gendron and Grady Thomas drew into the lineup replacing Jeremy Gervais and Trey Thomas.

Cariboo looks for the sweep on Sunday at 10AM from Kin 1.
