Forestry and Railway Museum seeking help for proposed pavilion

The Forestry and Railway Museum wants to work with the City on a roofed structure for its historical pieces.

The pavilion would protect old rail cars and equipment. It could also be used for outdoor markets or events.

The large building would be made by the Timber Framers Guild, a non-profit group that constructs through timber framing instead of a modern method. It traditionally uses joints to keep the structure together

Museum Executive Director Ranjit Gill presented the idea to Council this week. For the project to go through, she says the museum needs more than money.

“We need some help in the administration, getting some volunteers together, getting housing together for these volunteers that are coming, helping to feed them, helping to entertain them because a lot of them are coming up here and it’s their vacation. We just want to get the community together and we’re hoping that city council will help.”

Nothing was finalized at this week’s meeting. The city and the museum will keep working together to find a solution.
