Spruce Kings send Eagles into migration

If confidence is contagious then the Prince George Spruce Kings are through the roof.

Prince George completed a weekend sweep of the Surrey Eagles on Sunday with a 4-2 victory at the RMCA.

The offense of the Spruce Kings was aided just 17 seconds into the game when Eagles defenceman was thrown out of the game after receiving a checking from behind penalty against Prince George forward Jamie Huber.

Almost immediately, Chong Lee buried home a feed from Tanner Campbell to make it 1-0.

Liam Watson-Brawn doubled the lead for the Spruce Kings after his wrist-shot deflected off an Eagles stick and past goalie Michael Botiz.

Prince George carried its 2-0 advantage until early in the third period when ripped a slap shot handcuffing Spruce Kings goalie Stefan Wornig and into the net.

Parker Colley continued his goal scoring streak to the three games by going five-hole on Botiz making it 3-1.

An undisciplined penalty by Sam De Melo led to a 6 on 4 power-play for Surrey with goalie pulled leading to a Jacob Dupont marker cutting the deficit in half.

That’s as close as the Eagles got thanks to a Connor Russell empty-netter to seal the victory.

Colley spoke to MYPGMOW after the game and says things are coming together after a slow start.

“We have been working real hard all year, we had those tough seven losses to Wenatchee and Penticton but we have been playing really good and we can keep going from here.”

Spruce Kings improve to 7-8-0-1 on the season and now sit 3rd in the Mainland Division just two points ahead of the Coquitlam Express who come to the RMCA Friday and Saturday at 7PM.
