Spruce Kings give the Clippers an island sized trimming

The Prince George Spruce Kings continued their climb up the BCHL standings on Friday with a convincing 6-1 thumping over the Nanaimo Clippers.

Chong Lee put Prince George in front by burying a Brett Mennear feed giving the Spruce Kings a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes.

Prince George added to its lead in the second when Jarrod Hovde and Jaime Huber potted their 8th of season for a 3-0 advantage at the conclusion of two periods.

The territorial advantage swung in the Spruce Kings favour in the third period when the Clippers were outshot 17-7 and gave up three more goals in the process.

Defenceman Connor Russell and Tyler Anderson added offense from the backend notching goals of their own while Ben Brar potted his first in a Prince George uniform completing the outburst.

Spencer Hewson scored the lone goal for Nanaimo in defeat.

Tavin Grant made 23 saves for the win.

The Surrey Eagles roll into the RMCA on Saturday when they play the Spruce Kings in a pivotal Mainland Division showdown.

Prince George is three points up on Surrey for 3rd place.
