Shootout the name of the game for the surging Cougars

In a game they never trailed, the Prince George Cougars outlasted the Portland Winterhawks 6-5 in a shootout before 2,707 fans at CN Centre.

It was the 5th straight victory (all by one goal) for the Cougars and the second in as many nights against the Winterhawks.

Prince George led by a goal on five different occasions during regulation time.

Brad Morrison scored 10 seconds into the game and added two assists. Morrison was also plus four.

Radovan Bondra notched a goal, an assist and the shootout winner.

Brogan O’Brien and Colby McAuley also picked up a goal and a helper while Jansen Hansen Harkins added a goal and one in the shootout.

The Cougars outshot the Winterhawks 53-41, including 8-1 in overtime.

The Cats are 15-3-2 in games decided by one goal.

The 33-12-2 Cougars have opened up an 11-point lead over second place Kamloops in the BC Division.

Prince George leads the overall WHL standings by three points over Regina and by four over Everett although the Pats have six games in hand and the Silvertips have five in hand.

The Cougars host (27-12-6-1) Moose Jaw Friday on 50-50 mega jackpot night before starting a five game road trip Saturday in Kamloops.

The Warriors come to P.G. after posting a 3-2 Wednesday night overtime victory in Kelowna.
