Canada Post shuts down mail delivery for Prince George

With snow taking over the streets of Prince George, Canada Post has halted all mail deliveries and services in and out of the city.

Local CUPW President Tami Brushey says they didn’t receive their two regular trucks from the Lower Mainland on Thursday because of the closed highways.

“Our health and safety rep asked to speak with management and come up with a solution as to what to do today. After some discussion it was decided that neither the urban letter carriers or the rural suburban mail carriers would be going out.”

Brushey also says conditions are currently unsafe for all of their employees and it’s not worth risking their lives.

“Our mobile trucks don’t do very well on the roads, and our rural carriers are driving out on some pretty sketchy roads as it, so the decision was just made together that they would not send people out today.”

While there’s no official schedule on when mail service will be back in full force, Brushey predicts we could see carriers out early next week.

“Postal workers do not get Family Day [off], so as a result of that, depending on the roads and the conditions, we should be delivering again on Monday.”
