A former Cariboo Cougar has been recognized for his humanitarian work on and off the ice.

Prince George native Myles Mattila is the recipient of the BC Hockey President’s Award for his contribution and dedication to growing the game of hockey.

The 18-year-old forward accepted the honour at the organization’s annual AGM Awards in Sun Peaks, attended by other players, officials, and volunteers.

Mattila is known for his mental health advocacy, creating the MindRight Program for those who go through the stigma.

He is joining the Kelowna Chiefs of the Kootenay International Junior ‘B’ Hockey League (KIJHL) for the 2017-18 season.
