Fire crews called to backyard blaze in Van Bien area

Prince George Firefighters responded to a blaze on the 2100 block of MacDonald Avenue on Wednesday afternoon.

Before 2PM, 15 officers from three different halls were called to a home where a detached 20-feet by 30-feet garage caught fire.

No one was near the residence when the incident began, according to Deputy Fire Chief Cliff warner.

“As far as we know, there was nobody inside and there’s no injuries; more information will be available when we have completed an investigation.”

One witness told MyPrinceGeorgeNow they heard a big explosion, possibly from a barbecue propane tank.

Warner says however, the cause is still unknown.

“It’s just a fire at this point. I haven’t heard anything about a ‘bang’ and we’re not sure what the contents are other than it’s just a garage, and that it’s away from the house.”

The flames were extinguished quickly and the estimated damage cost is $125,000.

Police and paramedics also attended the scene as a precaution.
