SD57 Board of Trustees have approved a new committee to oversee trends in student enrolment over the next five years.
The Capacity Review Committee has brought a smile to the District Parents Advisory Council (D-PAC).

Chair Gillian Burnett says only D-PAC has been monitoring the numbers closely since 2010 and having the extra help will go a long way.
“I think it’s a much-needed advisory committee for the district. We need to look at the whole picture and right now, it comes in drips. So we need to be able to really focus our attention on what’s happening out there.”
The group will consist of representatives from Stakeholders, including:
- Prince George District Teachers’ Association = 1
- CUPE 3742 = 1
- CUPE 4991 = 1
- D-PAC = 1
- District Student Advisory Council = 1
- PG Principals & Vice-Principals Association = 1
- Assistant Superintendents = 2
- Energy, Sustainable Conservation Coordinator
- SD57 Secretary Treasurer
Burnett believes certain schools need to be considered and brought forward to parents’ attention.
“We’ve had issues with Duchess Park being over capacity, we’ve got space constraints in the Hart Family of Schools, which has resulted in the reopening of Springwood. But, none of these things has been done with enough time to have fulsom consultation.”
She says she’s looking forward to ensuring a learning space for every child in Prince George and working with SD57 in making necessary expansions.
Trustees Trish Bella and Sharel Warrington voted against the team, claiming it’s too similar to the Education Services Committee.
