School District hosting meet and greet BBQ at Springwood

Springwood Elementary kids can meet their new classmates this evening.

School District 57 is holding a Family Barbecue on the school ground, to celebrate the school’s reopening in September.

“There are going to be almost 170 students at Springwood in September,” says Tim Bennett, Chair of the District school board. “This will be the first time that we’re going to be able to bring the school community together to get to know each other before they start classes. It’s an opportunity for students…and their families and the community to come and meet the staff and start to build the great sense of community that we’re hoping is going to be at Springwood for September.”

Springwood students will be coming from various catchment areas in the city. Bennett says the evening event is a fun way for future classmates to get acquainted before taking off for the summer.

“We’re bringing together students who were at Heather Park, who were at Glenview, who may have been at other schools and this is an opportunity to bring everyone together for a night and celebrate the re-opening of Springwood.”

The barbecue begins at 5:30.

Any moms and dads who want to get more involved, the first Parent Advisory Council meeting is tomorrow night at Kelly Road Secondary.
