Vanderhoof’s IDIDALAP4CANCER fundraiser set for Friday

The walking track at Nechako Valley Secondary in Vanderhoof will be the site of the community’s largest cancer fundraiser.

On Friday, IDIDALAP 4 Cancer will run from noon until midnight.

The annual event will have no shortage of speakers according to organizer Jade Ginter.

“We’re going to have Stacey Soffel sing O’Canada for us and then we’re going to have a welcome from one of the committee members come and just introduce the event and what we’re going to be doing for the day and then our Mayor Gerry Thiessen is going to speak a little bit.”

The disease hits close to home for everyone.

“I think cancer is something that has affected everyone no matter who you are, if you had an aunt and uncle, everybody has been affected somewhere or another so I’m really passionate about it because I think it’s something that people can really relate to,” says Ginter.

In 2011, just over 19 teams raised $30,000 during the fundraisers first year.

Teams will walk around the track as many times as possible in order to raise money.
