Nachbaur becomes a King

Don Nachbaur is headed to the NHL.

The Los Angeles Kings have hired the Prince George Sports Hall of Fame member as an Assistant Coach.

He will work under new Kings Head Coach John Stevens, joining a staff that includes Assistant Coach Dave Lowry and Goaltending Coach Bill Ranford.

The 58-year-old Nachbaur spent the last seven seasons as Head Coach of the Spokane Chiefs.

“Don is a great addition to our coaching staff. I personally have known him 30-plus years. I played with him and have coached alongside him. He has played the game at a high level and he is a tremendous all-around teacher who is very well-rounded,” said Stevens in a team news release.

Nachbaur, who was born in Kitimat but raised in PG, ranks third in WHL history with 692 career wins as a Head Coach.

He was the bench boss of the Seattle Thunderbirds from 1994 to 2000, and the Tri-City Americans from 2003 to 2009 before joining Spokane.
