Stewart to hit the ground running for UNBC women’s basketball team

The UNBC Timberwolves women’s basketball added Megan Stewart to the lineup for the upcoming season.

Stewart says she is anxious to get going.

“I’m really excited to be joining the Timberwolves this season. I have loved basketball for as long as I remember, so it is a dream come true getting to play the game at the university level.”

The Maple Ridge product came away very impressed with the school following her campus visit.

“I came up to UNBC during spring break, and really enjoyed it. I was able to practice with the team and everyone was so welcoming. The school had an amazing atmosphere; I loved the smaller class sizes, and that it is an environmentally friendly university.”

Timberwolves coach Sergey Shchepotkin said Stewart has the frame and attitude to become a major factor for UNBC in the coming years.

“Megan has all the tools to become a big contributor for us. She has a great combination of size and speed. What stands out about Megan is her willingness to work on her skills. She has great desire to improve, and that will help her, and us, for years to come.”

Stewart paced the Samuel Robertson Tech Titans, leading the team to the Fraser Valley Championships for the first time in program history.

She will pursue an education in biology and resource management.
