RCMP officers patrolling Highway 5 near Clearwater on Monday conducted a routine vehicle stop that resulted in two arrests and multiple charges.
Both individuals are well-known to police. Angeline Louise Hammerstrom of Prince George was behind the wheel and Tristan Olson of Kamloops was the passenger, although that’s not what he told the officers.
“The driver was deemed to be prohibited from driving while the passenger provided police a false name,” says Sergeant Annie Linteau, the BC RCMP’s senior media liaison officer. “When police placed him under arrest, he ran from police,” Linteau says. “A search of the vehicle revealed a .357 Magnum revolver and a 25-calibre Colt handgun as well as other weapons and drugs.”
Olson is now facing six charges, including possession of a prohibited firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a firearm without a license, possession of a controlled substance and two counts of breach of probation. Hammerstrom is facing eight charges: possession of a prohibited firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a firearm without a license, driving while prohibited and four counts of breach of undertaking/recognizance.
Both were expected to appear in Kamloops court today.
“This incident is certainly a testament to the ongoing patrols that are taking place in those areas and again we encourage the public to report any suspicious activity,” Linteau says.
