Anderson’s hat-trick forces Game Five for Devils

Scott Anderson dipped into the fountain of youth on Thursday and got rewarded for it.

The 49-year-old’s first-period hat-trick led the Westwood Pub Devils to a 7-3 victory over the RPR Mechanical/BX Pub Bandits to tie up the Prince George Senior Lacrosse best-of-five finals, 2-2.

“That was a good way to start the first period as I have not had much success putting balls in the net, but a couple of them dropped in and it felt pretty good for the team,” said Anderson.

The Devils made life miserable for Bandits forward Drew Doig once again.

He has eight points in the last two games after recording 48 points in his first four playoff contests.

Anderson says the team is taking advantage of a depleted top line that is without Cole Paciejewski and Jesse Huffman.

“He doesn’t really have anybody to work with on the left side because Cole is missing and we are trying to get on him as fast as we can because he is such a dangerous player.”

Former Cariboo Cougar Darian Long was named the star of the game with five points (1G, 4A).

However, it was his effort on the penalty kill that made the biggest difference.

“I definitely killed a lot of penalties when I was with Cariboo so that is where the experience comes from. It is a different style out here because you can’t just dump the ball down every time you get it, unlike hockey.”

After being outscored 31-15 in the first two games, the Devils have turned the tables on the Bandits in the last two meetings leading in the goal department by an 18-10 margin.

Game Five for the Dale Rolufs Memorial Trophy is slated for Tuesday night, 8PM at Kin 1.
