Sekani Tribal Council sends out reports, hopes for reconciliation

A local First Nations band is hoping a new report sent to the Environmental Assessment office will open the door to more informed decisions on proposed pipeline developments.

Carrier Sekani Chief Terry Teegee says he is hoping for an adjustment from government:

“I think there really needs to be a better process in terms of addressing all of our concerns and in terms of the cumulative impacts of these pipelines, as well as the effects it will have on the environment and also on our traditional way of life”

He mentioned the June T’silhqot’in court case as a prime example of an urgent need for new processes and approaches to reconciliation, and hopes when the two sides meet in the future they will address and enforce all First Nation concerns.
