PG firefighters extinguish tractor fire, Highway 97 south open to traffic

UPDATE – 5PM:

Witnesses are telling My PG Now that the tractor fire on Highway 97 has been put out.

Prince George fire crews are still on scene looking to clean up the area quickly.

The left lane is reportedly open to traffic, drivers are proceeding with caution.

We’ll continue to bring more information when it becomes available.

Fire trucks and ambulances on the scene of a fire on Highway 97.

PG Fire Chief John Iverson confirms with My PG Now that the tractor of a logging truck went up in flames, but there’s no word yet on the cause.

The highway heading south of Prince George is closed near Fraserway RV.

Witnesses are reporting as black smoke hovering across the road, feeling the heat as they carefully drive by.

Iverson adds three trucks are working to extinguish the fire as soon as they can.
