Timberwolves add posterizing forward

Get your cameras ready.

The UNBC Men’s basketball team has announced the commitment with Edmonton-standout Fareed Shittu.

“I am very excited,” said Shittu. “This is a new beginning for me. This is a new door for me, and I am just happy to see where it takes me.”

The six-foot-five forward didn’t start taking basketball seriously until last year. Shittu made the transition from the soccer pitch, which he played throughout his youth, to the hardwood when he took to the court for the first time.

“I actually didn’t play basketball until Grade 11. I am just in Grade 12, so that is not a very long time,” said Shittu. “Ever since then I just fell in love with the game, and I have been wanting to improve myself, and improve my game to play at the next level.”

Shittu received interest from a number of schools at the university level. A visit to UNBC in March exposed the 17-year-old to the Timberwolves program, as well as the culture to go along with it.

At Harry Ainlay High School, he and his teammates won the Edmonton City Championship in his Grade 11 year and were runners-up this past season.

When Shittu arrives in Prince George ahead of the 2019-2020 Canada West season, he plans to study business or engineering at UNBC.

Shittu will graduate from Harry Ainlay in June and will be joining his new teammates for training camp in August.
