Some local curling faces have swept up some hardware.
Each year, Curl BC celebrates and honours those who have made outstanding contributions to the sport of curling in the province.
Prince George’s Vonda Hofferd was named a co-winner of the Wally M’Lot Award as Official of the Year.
This year, Vonda took on the daunting task of contributing to four clinics in Quesnel ahead of the 2019 BC Men’s and Women’s Combined Championships. She also helped the club to run a bonspiel in the fall to help people get certified for the provincials. She was also named as the chief umpire for the 2019 Scotties BC Women’s Curling Championships.
The Quesnel Curling Centre was also named as one of the Curling Centres of the Year. The recognition was earned for the club’s outstanding job in planning and preparing for the Men’s and Women’s Combined Curling Championships.
David Mould from Smithers was named Club Volunteer of the Year. Since beginning his work with the Smithers Curling Club in 2008, Mould has played an integral part in the ongoing operation of the club.

While there won’t be an awards banquet as part of the Annual General Meeting weekend put on by Curl BC, Awards Committee facilitator Mellisa Sim is hoping the alternative creates a moment that is that much more special for the winners.
“We hope that presenting a Curl BC Award to the recipient at their home club where their family and friends can celebrate the incredible achievements of the recipient will make the aware more personal and meaningful,” said Sim.
