Impaired man causes commotion on Prince George streets

Members of the Public helped Prince George RCMP track down an impaired driver.

On Saturday at 3:30 p.m. police received multiple reports of vehicle collisions involving a full-size pick-up truck on Ospika Boulevard and Massey Drive in Prince George.

Cpl. Craig Douglass said residents provided updates to RCMP while they were on their way and pointed them in the right direction when the driver fled on foot.

“The 50-year-old male Prince George resident underwent a 12 step evaluation conducted by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE). Following the evaluation, the DRE believed the driver was impaired by a drug.”

Douglass said no one was injured, but the truck collided with at least one vehicle and a building.

After further investigation it was discovered the truck was uninsured, displaying licence plates that belonged to another vehicle, and the driver was prohibited from driving at the time of the incident.

The driver was detained but later released on a promise to appear.

He was also issued a 24-hour suspension, along with a violation ticket, and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.
