PG LACROSSE:

The Westwood Pub Devils play Northland Nissan Assault in the Prince George Senior Lacrosse best-of-five final with game one tonight (Tuesday) at 8:00 at Kin 1.

Prior to the game, league awards will be handed out.

The remainder of the series is scheduled for Thursday, Monday and if needed July 24th and 25th.

The Prince George Posse compete at the Provincial A2 bantam lacrosse championship in Victoria/North Saanich.

They start play Thursday in the four-day tournament.

The PG Posse brought home the bronze medal from the B.C. A2 peewee lacrosse championship in Delta.

After going 2-2-1 in the six-team division round-robin, Prince George beat Richmond 9-5 in the third-place game.

 

SOFTBALL:

Prince George finished in the top-eight out of 16 at the Under-16 girls C softball provincials in Quesnel.

The P.G. team went 2 and 2 in the round-robin and 1-2 in the double knockout playoffs.

 

MLB:

Boston Red Sox  10  Toronto Blue Jays  8

The 35-60 Jays are 1-3 on a 10-game road trip that continues tonight in Boston against the 51-43 Red Sox.

NHL:

Lethbridge Hurricanes forward Dylan Cozens has signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Buffalo Sabres.

Cozens, who was selected seventh overall in the 2019 NHL draft, notched 84 points (34 goals) in 68 regular-season games with the Hurricanes in the 2018-19 season.

The Ottawa Senators have signed defenceman Lassi Thomson to a three-year, entry-level contract.

The 18-year-old Thomson, who played this past season with the Kelowna Rockets, was selected in the first round of this year’s NHL Draft, 19th overall.

NBA:

The Philadelphia 76’ers and Ben Simmons have agreed to a five-year, $170 million extension.

In the 2018-19 season, Simmons averaged 16.9 points, 8.8 rebounds and 7.7 assists per game.

CFL:

Week six of the CFL season begins Thursday night (6:00 PT) with (0-4) Toronto at (2-2) Calgary.

In other action: (2-2) Ottawa visits (4-0) Winnipeg Friday (5:30) and (3-1) Edmonton plays at (2-2) Montreal Saturday (1:00).

The (1-4) B.C. Lions play Saturday (4:00) in Saskatchewan against the (1-3) Roughriders.

The Lions are giving up an average of 30 points a game while scoring just 20.

GOLF:

The (British) Open will be held in Northern Ireland for just the second time.

The 148th Open tees off Thursday.

Brooks Koepka has won four of the last eight Majors.

Koepka and Dustin Johnson are both listed by oddsmakers at 10/1 behind Rory McIlroy who is 8-1.

Tiger Woods checks in at 20/1.

Francesco Molinari (25/1) is the defending champion.

The Prince George Cougars 8th annual Alumni Hospital Charity Golf Tournament took place
at the PG Golf and Curling Club.

Dan Hamhuis was among the participants.

Over the past seven years, the Cougars and the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation have partnered to raise close to $500,000 towards healthcare in Northern BC.

For the past three years, fundraising for the sold-out tournament has focused on cardiac care.
