SPCA looking for tips after nine emaciated cats found in sealed bins

The BC SPCA is looking for any information the public may have regarding nine emaciated cats left in sealed bins in Prince George last week.

Lorie Chortyk, General Manager of Communications for the BC SPCA, said they were called on July the 9th by a property manager who had gone to check on a vacant lot she hadn’t been to in nine days.

“She found two bins, they had a few air holes punched out of them, one was tied up with a rope. She heard meowing coming from the bins and when she opened them up she found two little kittens and seven adult cats.”

They were starving and matted with feces and urine to such an extent that their fur had to be shaved off.

“We don’t think they would have survived much longer if she hadn’t found them that day,” said Chortyk.

The location was at 1471 Milburn Avenue, and Chortyk said anyone with information about the cats can contact them via their animal cruelty line.

“It’s important for people to understand that not only is it completely inhumane and unnecessary to leave animals like that, but it’s also illegal, people can be charged with animal cruelty for abandoning an animal.”

She also wanted to thank the public for their kindness in the wake of the discovery.

Just under $10,000.00 has been raised for the animals after the SPCA marked a goal of $3024.00 for food and medical expenses. Chortyk said the remaining funds will be put towards other animals in need.
