GOLF:

Shane Lowry won the (British) Open in his home country scoring a whopping six-stroke victory in Northern Ireland.

The 32-year-old Lowry finished at 15-under-269 followed by Tommy Fleetwood at 275.

Four-time Major winner Brooks Koepka tied for fourth but nine strokes off the pace.

ABERDEEN GOLF:

Wyatt Brook of Kelowna dominated the men’s Aberdeen Glen Open.

Brook, who golfs at Fraser Valley University, posted a 54-hole score of 17-under-202, good for an eight-shot victory over Adam Veenstra of Smithers.

Veenstra, who attends Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, finished at 9-under.

 

CFL:  (Final games of week six)

Saskatchewan Roughriders  38  BC Lions  25  (Saturday)

Lions suffered their fifth loss in six games this season. Riders are 2-3.

Montreal Alouettes  20  Edmonton Eskimos  10  (Saturday)

Both teams are 3-2.

PG SPRUCE KINGS:

After guiding the Prince George Spruce Kings to back to back BCHL Finals, head coach Adam Maglio is leaving the team and headed to the WHL.

Maglio has been hired by the Spokane Chiefs as associate coach.

The Spruce Kings are staying in house for his replacement.

Alex Evin has been promoted from associate coach to head coach.

The Spruce Kings are coming off their most successful season ever, winning the 2019 Fred Page and Doyle Cups, and reaching the National Championship game against the host Brooks Bandits.

PG COUGARS:

The Prince George Cougars associate coach Jason Smith met the media three days after his hiring was announced.

Detroit Tigers  4  Toronto Blue Jays  3  (10)

The (38-63) Jays finished 4-6 on a 10-game road trip.

The Blue Jays start a six-game homestand tonight against the (57-41) Cleveland Indians.

PG LACROSSE:

The best-of-five Prince George Senior Lacrosse final resumes tonight at 8:00 at Kin 1.

The Westwood Pub Devils lead Northland Nissan Assault 2-0 after winning the
first two games 21-6 and 10-5.

The Prince George Posse finished with a win and two losses at the Provincial A2 bantam lacrosse championship in Victoria/North Saanich.

Prince George fell 10-7 to Peninsula Thursday, beat Ridge Meadows 12-11 Friday and lost 5-2 to Saanich Saturday.

The PG Posse will also participate in the Provincial midget B lacrosse championship this week in Langley.
