CFL: (Week 10)

Winnipeg Blue Bombers  32  BC Lions  16

Former Lion Andrew Harris rushed for 73 yards to pass former Montreal receiver Ben Cahoon (13,368 yards) to become the all-time leader among Canadian players for yards from scrimmage. His career total is 13,377.

Winnipeg quarterback Matt Nichols was injured left the game with about nine minutes left in the fourth after being sacked by new Lions defensive lineman Shawn Lemon.

BC quarterback Mike Reilly was sacked seven more times bringing the total to a season-high 32. The Winnipeg defence added an interception and three forced fumbles.

The (1-8) Lions have lost five straight and already are eight points out of a playoff spot.

The (7-2) Blue Bombers lead the West Division by four points over three teams.

In the CFL tonight: Edmonton plays at Toronto (4:30 PM PT).

A pair of games Saturday will conclude week 10: Hamilton at Ottawa (1:00) followed by Montreal at Calgary (4:00).

Midget Baseball:

The BC champion Prince George Surg Med Knights are in Strathmore, Alberta for the Western Canadian double-A midget baseball championship (Today-Sunday).

The defending champion Knights will face the Unity (Saskatchewan) Cardinals this afternoon at 1:15 PT in its opener.

They will also battle Altona, Manitoba Bisons, host Strathmore Reds and Leduc, Alberta Giants in the five-team tournament.

MLB:

The (51-73) Toronto Blue Jays are 4-3 on a 10-game homestand that continues this weekend.

The Jays entertain the (50-72) Seattle Mariners tonight, Saturday and Sunday.

PG Cougars:

The Prince George Cougars have announced details for their 5-day Training Camp which runs August 23rd to 27th.

Camp rosters will be comprised of returning players, prospects, and free-agent invites who will be grouped into four teams.

The Camp will end with the Black vs. White Intrasquad Game on Tuesday, August 27th at 7 pm.

The Prince George Spruce Kings Main Training Camp will run from Friday, August 23rd to Sunday, August 25th.

NHL:

It looks like Joe Thornton is ready to play another season.

Reports indicate that the 40-year-old Thornton and San Jose Sharks are close to terms on a one-year contract.

It would be his 22nd season in the NHL.

Stock Cars:

A doubleheader of stock car racing is featured this weekend at PGARA Speedway.

The Northern Outlaws 4-Cylinder Invitational highlights the races on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.

Jr. Golf:

Cody Bailey of Prince George missed the 36-hole cut by five shots at the 81st Canadian Junior Boys Championship in Hartland, N.B.

Bailey had rounds of 78 and 74 for an 8-over-152 total.

Defending champion Christopher Vandette of Beaconsfield, Que., (62, 69, 72, 71= 14-under-274) won the tournament by one stroke.
