NHL:

After missing training camp in Victoria, sniper Brock Boeser has signed on the dotted line with the Vancouver Canucks.

The 22-year-old right-winger agreed to a three-year deal, that carries an average annual value of $5.875 million.

Boeser will rejoin the Canucks on Wednesday.

Jake Virtanen scored his second goal of the game at 1:32 of overtime.

The Flames jumped out to a 4-0 lead early in the third period.

The Canucks will host the Edmonton Oilers in an exhibition game tonight (Tuesday) at Rogers Arena.

The NHL has labour peace through 2022.

The NHL Players’ Association announced it will not re-open the current collective bargaining agreement after the 2019-20 season, thus avoiding a potential lockout next year.

The NHL had the same right and informed the NHLPA last month that it would not terminate the labour deal.

According to his agent, Toronto Maple Leafs sniper Mitch Marner received a couple of offer sheets from NHL teams while he was a restricted free agent.

Agent Darren Ferris says Maple Leafs GM Kyle Dubas was aware of the offers although which teams were involved have not been disclosed.

Marner and the Leafs agreed to a six-year contract with an average annual value of $10.893 million.

 

PG Cougars:

After going 0-4-1 in the pre-season, the Prince George Cougars gear up to open their WHL regular season this weekend.

The Cougars host the defending Western Conference champion Vancouver Giants Friday and Saturday.

PG Spruce Kings:

The (1-1-2) Prince George Spruce Kings play their first road game of the season Friday in Chilliwack against the (1-3) Chiefs.

They also visit the (0-3) Langley Rivermen Saturday and the (2-0) Coquitlam Express Sunday.

Canada West Men’s Soccer:

The (3-3-1) UNBC men’s soccer team will play its next two games in Edmonton against the Alberta Golden Bears on Saturday afternoon and against the MacEwan Griffins Sunday night afternoon.

The (2-1-1) UNBC Timberwolves women’s soccer team will host the (0-2-2) Lethbridge Pronghorns Friday night at 6:00 and the (0-4) Mount Royal Cougars Sunday at noon at Masich Place Stadium.

NFL
: (Final game in week two)

Cleveland Browns  23  New York Jets  3

Entering the third week of the NFL season, nine teams are 2-0. They are New England, Buffalo, Baltimore and Kansas City in the AFC plus Dallas, Green Bay, Seattle, San Francisco and the LA Rams in the NFC.

Detroit is unbeaten at 1-0-1.

The nine teams sitting 0-2 are Miami, NY Jets, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Jacksonville and Denver in the AFC plus the New York Giants, Washington and Carolina in the NFC.

Arizona is winless at 0-1-1.

(The Dolphins have been outscored 102-10)

Week three starts Thursday with 1-1 Tennessee at 0-2 Jacksonville (5:20 PM PT).

New York Giants coach Pat Shurmur has announced that rookie Daniel Jones will start at quarterback when the 0-2 Giants play at Tampa on Sunday.

38-year-old Eli Manning has been the team’s starter for 15 years.

Manning is in the final year of a four-year, $84 million contract that includes a no-trade clause.

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will have surgery on his right elbow and miss the remainder of the season.

Roethlisberger was injured in the second quarter of Sunday’s 28-26 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees is expected to miss six weeks following thumb surgery.

Brees suffered the injury in the 27-9 loss against the LA Rams.


CFL:

Week 15 of the CFL season begins with a Friday doubleheader: (8-4) Calgary at (2-9) Toronto (4:00 PT) followed by (9-3) Hamilton at (6-6) Edmonton (6:30 PT).

West-leading (9-3) Winnipeg plays at (6-5) Montreal (Saturday 1:00 PT).

The BC Lions complete a home-and-home against the (3-9) Ottawa RedBlacks Saturday (4 pm PT) in Ottawa.

The (2-10) Lions crushed the RedBlacks 29-5 in Vancouver last week.

Ottawa has lost its last five.

MLB:

The Toronto Blue Jays have a dozen games left: six on the road this week at six at home next week.

The (59-91) Jays visit the (49-101) Baltimore Orioles tonight, Wednesday and Thursday and will also play at the NY Yankees Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Toronto will host Baltimore Sept 23rd, 24th and 25th and Tampa Bay on Sept. 27th, 28th and 29th.
