PG Cougars:

The Prince George Cougars host the defending Western Conference champion Vancouver Giants Friday and Saturday to open their WHL regular season.

The Giants are #10 in the CHL pre-season Top 10 Rankings.

The Cougars roster sits at 25: two goaltenders, eight defencemen, and 15 forwards.

PG Spruce Kings:

The (1-1-2) Prince George Spruce Kings play their first road game of the season Friday in Chilliwack against the (1-3) Chiefs.

They also visit the (0-3) Langley Rivermen Saturday and the (2-0) Coquitlam Express Sunday.

Cariboo Cougars:

The Cariboo Cougars open their season this weekend.

The Major Midget Cougars host the Thompson Blazers Saturday at 4:30 p.m. and Sunday at 10:30 a.m. at Kin 1.

The Cougars will raise their 2019 playoff championship banner just prior to puck drop on Saturday.

NHL:

Media reports indicate that former PG Cougar Dustin Byfuglien of the Winnipeg Jets is considering retirement from the NHL.

The 34-year-old defenceman was granted a leave of absence from the Jets last week.

Byfuglien has two years left on his contract, with an average annual value of $7.6 million.

The Vancouver Canucks play the Oilers in an NHL pre-season game tonight in Edmonton.

The two teams met Tuesday in Vancouver with the Canucks posting a 4-2 victory.

Canada West Women’s Soccer:

The (2-1-1) UNBC Timberwolves women’s soccer team will host the (0-2-2) Lethbridge Pronghorns Friday night at 6:00 and the (0-4) Mount Royal Cougars Sunday at noon at Masich Place Stadium.

Canada West Men’s Soccer:

The (3-3-1) UNBC men’s soccer team will play its next two games in Edmonton against the (1-4-1) Alberta Golden Bears Saturday afternoon and the (1-3-2) MacEwan Griffins Sunday afternoon.

Owen Stewart, the leading scorer with the UNBC Timberwolves men’s soccer team, is the Canada West Third Star of the Week.

A fourth-year local product, Stewart notched four points in his last two games, including a goal and an assist in a 3-2 victory on Friday over the Mount Royal Cougars.


NFL
:

Week three of the NFL season starts tonight (5:20 PT) with the 1-1 Tennessee Titans at 0-2 Jacksonville Jaguars.

Nine NFL teams are 2-0. They are New England, Buffalo, Baltimore and Kansas City in the AFC plus Dallas, Green Bay, Seattle, San Francisco and the LA Rams in the NFC.

Detroit is unbeaten at 1-0-1.

The nine teams sitting 0-2 are Miami, NY Jets, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Jacksonville and Denver in the AFC plus the New York Giants, Washington and Carolina in the NFC.

Arizona is winless at 0-1-1.

(The Dolphins have been outscored 102-10)

Cam Newton of the Carolina Panthers missed practice (Wednesday) due to a mid-foot sprain. He remains in a walking boot.

If Newton can’t play Sunday at Arizona, the Panthers will start Kyle Allen at quarterback.

 

CFL:

The BC Lions complete a home-and-home against the (3-9) Ottawa RedBlacks Saturday (4 pm PT) in Ottawa.

The (2-10) Lions crushed the RedBlacks 29-5 in Vancouver last week.

Ottawa has lost its last five.

Week 15 of the CFL season begins with a Friday doubleheader: (8-4) Calgary at (2-9) Toronto (4:00 PT) followed by (9-3) Hamilton at (6-6) Edmonton (6:30 PT).

West-leading (9-3) Winnipeg plays at (6-5) Montreal (Saturday 1:00 PT).

MLB:

Toronto Blue Jays  11  Baltimore Orioles  10

The (61-91) Jays are 2-0 on a six-game road trip that continues tonight against the (49-103) Orioles plus Friday, Saturday and Sunday vs. the AL East-leading NY Yankees.

Toronto will host Baltimore Sept 23rd, 24th and 25th and Tampa Bay on Sept. 27th, 28th and 29th to complete its regular season.
