Minnesota  2  Ottawa  0

Colorado, 6-3 winners over Washington, has the only perfect record in the NHL at 5-0.

Buffalo has not lost in regulation as the Sabres are off to a 5-0-1 start.

New Jersey is the only winless team at 0-4-2.

The (2-2) Vancouver Canucks host the (3-2) Detroit Red Wings tonight.

Four other Canadian NHL teams are in action this evening and all are on home ice.

Calgary entertains Philadelphia, Montreal hosts Tampa Bay, Toronto welcomes Minnesota and Winnipeg hosts Arizona.

WHL: (PG Cougars)

The (2-5-0-1) Cougars host the (4-3-1) Spokane Chiefs Friday and Saturday to begin a four-game homestand.

The Cats also entertain (2-4-0-1) Swift Current on Oct. 22nd and (5-3-1) Kelowna on Oct. 23rd.

The (4-6-2-1) Spruce Kings host the (8-5-1-1) Chilliwack Chiefs Friday and Saturday.

Prince George is 4th in the Mainland Division, one point behind the (6-8) Langley Rivermen, seven back of the Chilliwack Chiefs, and nine behind the (10-2) Coquitlam Express.

BC Major Midget League: (Cariboo Cougars)

Cariboo Cougars  6  Valley West Giants  5  (OT-Sunday)

Alex Ochitwa scored his second goal of the game 16 seconds into overtime for the Major Midget Cougars, who extended their win streak to five games.

Cariboo is in 4th place but sits just a point out of second place with two games in hand.

The (5-0-0-1) Cougars will be back on home ice on Saturday when they welcome the (6-2) Vancouver Northeast Chiefs to Kin 1.

The game (4:30 p.m. start) will be Pink in the Rink Night, the team’s annual fundraiser and awareness campaign in the fight against breast cancer.

The Cougars and Chiefs will also play at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday.

BC Minor Midget League: (Cariboo Minor Midget Cougars at Kin  1)

The Minor Midget Cougars are 2-2 after their first four regular-season games.

Canada West Women’s Soccer: (in Calgary)

The (3-5-4) UNBC women’s soccer team has two regular-season games left with both on the road: Friday at (6-3-3) Victoria and Saturday at (7-2-3) UBC. Both games kick-off at 5 PM.

The Timberwolves are 5th out of eight in the Canada West Pacific Division where the top six teams advance to the playoffs.

Canada West Men’s Soccer:

The (4-6-3) UNBC men’s soccer team has two regular-season games remaining and both are against the (4-5-5) Thompson Rivers University (TRU) WolfPack on Saturday and Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at Masich Place.

The UNBC men are last out of seven teams in the Prairie Division, where just the top four move on to the quarterfinals.

The Timberwolves need to beat TRU twice and get lots of help in other games to advance to the Canada West playoffs.

MLB:

National League Championship Series: 

Washington Nationals  8  St. Louis Cardinals  1

The Nationals hold a commanding 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven NLCS with game four tonight (5:05 p.m. PT).

American League Championship Series: (Game 2)

The ALCS has shifted to Yankee Stadium with New York and the Houston Astros tied 1-1.

Game three will go this afternoon (1:08 p.m. PT).

NFL: (Final game in week six)

Green Bay Packers  23  Detroit Lions  22

Mason Crosby kicked a 23-yard field goal on the final play of the game.

The Packers improve to 5-1, the same record as Seattle and New Orleans.

Buffalo is 4-1.

The only unbeaten teams are (6-0) New England and (5-0) San Francisco.

Week seven begins Thursday with two AFC West teams meeting as (4-2) Kansas City plays at (2-4) Denver.

CFL: (Week 18)

Edmonton Eskimos  19  BC Lions  6  (Saturday)

BC quarterback Mike Reilly broke his left wrist in a game where the (5-11) Lions were officially eliminated from playoff contention.

Reilly underwent surgery and is out for the season.

The (8-8) Eskimos have clinched a playoff spot.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers  35  Montreal Alouettes  24 (Saturday)

The (10-6) Blue Bombers are tied with (10-5) Calgary and (10-5) Saskatchewan for first in the West Division, although the Stampeders and Roughriders each have a game in hand.

The (8-7) Alouettes loss officially clinched top spot for (12-3) Hamilton in the East Division.
