WHL: (PG Cougars)
Prince George Cougars  2  Spokane Chiefs  1

Taylor Gauthier blocked 37 of 38 shots to lead the Cougars to a 2-1 triumph over the Chiefs, one week after the Cougars beat the very same team for their first road win of the season.

The (3-5-0-1) Prince George Cougars began the weekend with four home games in six nights, wrapping up their doubleheader against the (4-3-1) Spokane Chiefs tonight.

The Cats also entertain the (2-5-1-1) Swift Current Broncos on Tuesday and the (6-3-1) Kelowna Rockets on Wednesday.

The Cougars are tied with Victoria for the second wild-card spot in the Western Conference, although the Royals have a game in hand.

BCHL: (PG Spruce Kings)

Prince George Spruce Kings  3  Chilliwack Chiefs  2  (OT)

The (5-6-2-1) Prince George Spruce Kings welcomed back Nolan Welsh from injury, especially after the 20-year-old potted a hat trick to lift his club over the (8-5-2-1) Chilliwack Chiefs at the RMCA on Friday night.

Prince George is 4th in the Mainland Division, one point behind the (7-8) Langley Rivermen, six back of the Chilliwack Chiefs, and seven behind the (10-3) Coquitlam Express.

BC Major Midget League: (Cariboo Cougars)

The Cariboo Cougars put a five-game win streak on the line when they host (6-2) Vancouver Northeast Chiefs today at 4:00 p.m. in the Pink in the Rink game, which will serve as a fundraiser for breast cancer research.

The two teams also meet Sunday at 10:30 a.m. also at Kin 1.

The (5-0-0-1) Major Midget Cougars are in 4th place but just a point out of second place with two games in hand.

NHL: 

Vancouver  4  St. Louis  3  (SO) (from Thursday)

Fourth straight victory for the (4-2) Canucks, their longest win streak since the 2017-18 season.

Vancouver will continue a 4-game road trip when they visit New Jersey today (10 a.m. PT), NY Rangers Sunday and Detroit Tuesday.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have lost captain John Tavares for at least two weeks.

Tavares suffered a broken finger in the 4-3 Wednesday loss to the Washington Capitals.

Forward Nico Hischier and the New Jersey Devils have come to terms on a seven-year contract extension worth $7.25 million per season.

Canada West Men’s Soccer: (UNBC Timberwolves)

The (4-6-3) UNBC Timberwolves men’s soccer team will conclude its regular season with a pair of home games against the (4-5-5) Thompson Rivers University (TRU) WolfPack.

Both games will be played at Masich Place Stadium at 1:00 p.m. today and Sunday.

The UNBC men are last and TRU second-last out of seven teams in the Prairie Division, where just the top four move on to the quarterfinals.

Canada West Women’s Soccer: (UNBC Timberwolves)

The (3-6-4) UNBC Timberwolves women’s soccer team put forth a hard-fought match but ended up losing 1-0 to the (7-3-3) Victoria Vikes.

The UNBC women visit the (7-2-4) UBC Thunderbirds tonight at 5:00.

With a Thompson Rivers loss on Friday night, UNBC clinched themselves a post-season berth.

MLB: (American League Championship Series)

New York Yankees  4  Houston Astros  1

James Paxton made an early lead stand up and the Yanks surprised Justin Verlander and the Astros, cutting Houston’s lead in the AL Championship Series to 3-2.

Game 6 will be played today at 5:08 p.m. PT.

The NL champion Washington Nationals will play Games 1 and 2 of the World Series at the AL team’s stadium starting on Tuesday.

NFL
: (Week 7)

Kansas City Chiefs  30  Denver Broncos  6

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes suffered a dislocated right kneecap that will keep him on the sidelines for the next few weeks.

The Chiefs lead the AFC West with a 5-2 record while the Broncos are 2-5.

There are a dozen NFL games on Sunday including Baltimore at Seattle.

The only unbeaten teams are (6-0) New England and (5-0) San Francisco.

Green Bay, Seattle and New Orleans are 5-1 while Buffalo is 4-1.

CFL: (Week 19)

Montreal Alouettes  27  Toronto Argonauts  24

Quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. threw three touchdown passes as the Alouettes defeated the Argonauts on Friday night at Percival Molson Stadium.

Saskatchewan Roughriders  27  BC Lions  19

Quarterback Cody Fajardo threw for 224 yards and the Riders downed the Lions 27-19 on Friday night in Vancouver.

Fajardo completed 21-of-27 attempts for the Riders (11-5), including one touchdown.

Ottawa will be paying a visit to Hamilton with kickoff scheduled for 1:00 p.m. PT.

Winnipeg plays at Calgary today (4:00 PT) as the “Best in the West” race continues.
