Chiefs edge Spruce Kings to earn split

Once the Chilliwack Chiefs took the lead, they never gave it back.

The Mainland Division rival of the Prince George Spruce Kings earned a greasy 2-1 road victory on Saturday in front of 798 fans at the Rolling Mix Concrete Arena.

All the scoring took place in the first period as Nick Poisson lit the lamp on the power-play to give PG an early 1-0 advantage.

Chilliwack struck twice in less than a minute to end the frame courtesy of Peter Reynolds and Brody Gagno.

After the Spruce Kings outshot the Chiefs 19-7 in the first period, PG only mustered 17 targets in the direction of Mathieu Caron the rest of the way.

Jett Alexander made 21 saves in defeat for the defending Fred Page and Doyle Cup champs who fall to 5-7-2-1 on the season, good enough for fourth place in the Mainland Division.

Chong Min Lee went pointless in his return to the Spruce Kings lineup.

Prince George went 1-2-1 during a four-game home stand.

A three-game road swing through the Island Division awaits the Spruce Kings starting on Thursday against the Powell River Kings followed by back-to-back contests versus the Victoria Grizzlies (Saturday) and the Cowichan Valley Capitals (Sunday).
