‘Blackwater boxer’ injured by gunshot wound to the face recovering well

The community pulled through to get an injured animal to the SPCA and then again to help her recover from a gunshot wound to her jaw.

Luna, also known as the Blackwater Boxer, was seen wandering around on Blackwater Road for about ten days last month before the SPCA was able to trap her with the help of residents in the area. It was clear she had a serious injury to the face, originally thought to be a missing jaw, by people who had seen her.

“Luna went through surgery with flying colours and is currently recovering in a foster home. Her jaw was repaired as much as possible, and it is estimated that she will regain a significant degree of function in her jaw – it won’t get back to 100%, but she should be able to eat, drink, pick up a ball, and do other normal doggie things, ” said the BC North Cariboo SPCA.

SPCA Manager Alex Schare said when they reached out for help, the community raised over $25,000, “every  expense of Luna’s so far has been covered, it’s absolutely amazing the amount of public support we’ve received.”

The investigation into what happened to Luna is ongoing and Schare said anyone with information on the incident to call the SPCA Animal Cruelty hotline.
