WHL: (PG Cougars)

Tri-City Americans  5  Prince George Cougars  2

Taylor Gauthier had a tough outing in the Cougars second visit to Tri-City, allowing three goals on 13 shots he faced before leaving the game with a lower-body injury. 16-year-old Tyler Brennan came in to replace, stopping 10 of 12 shots he faced.

The Cougars outshot the Americans 41-25 before 3,051 at the Toyota Center in Kennewick, Washington.

The (3-9-0-1) Cougars will look to snap their four-game losing streak when they visit the (7-8) Vancouver Giants this afternoon (4:00 p.m.) in Langley.

Prince George is sitting last in the Western Conference, four points behind the (5-5-1) Victoria Royals and (4-5-2-1) Seattle Thunderbirds.

The Royals slipped ahead of Seattle for the last playoff position with a win on Saturday.

BCHL: (PG Spruce Kings)

Prince George Spruce Kings  2  Victoria Grizzlies  1

Chong Min Lee came up with two helpers, earning himself 1st-star honours as the Spruce Kings came out of the tilt with two points.

Jett Alexander stopped 37 of the 38 shots he faced, earning himself 2nd-star honours.

The (6-8-2-1) Prince George Spruce Kings visit the (10-7-1-1) Cowichan Valley Capitals this afternoon.

Puck drop is scheduled to go at 2:00 p.m. PT.

Prince George is 4th in the Mainland Division, one point behind the (8-10) Langley Rivermen, seven back of the (9-5-3-1) Chilliwack Chiefs and nine behind the (12-4) Coquitlam Express.

BC Major Midget League: (Cariboo Cougars)

The Cariboo Cougars visit the (2-8-0-1) Greater Vancouver Canadians again this morning at 10:00 in Richmond.

The (7-1-0-1) Major Midget Cougars are in 4th place in the 11-team BCMML, a point behind the (8-3) Vancouver NE Chiefs, three back of the (9-2) Vancouver NW Hawks and six behind the (10-0) Okanagan Rockets.

NHL:

Winnipeg  2  Calgary  1  (OT)

The (6-6) Winnipeg Jets and (6-5-2) Calgary Flames met in the Heritage Classic, played at Mosaic Stadium in Regina.

Attendance for the game was 33,518.

Two Canadian teams will be in action today.

The (8-2-1) Edmonton Oilers will look to remain undefeated at home when they play host to the (4-2-4) Florida Panthers at 1:00 p.m. PT.

The (4-6-1) San Jose Sharks will travel to Ottawa to faceoff against the (2-7-1) Senators at 4:00 p.m. PT.

Vancouver will be back in action tomorrow (Monday) when they host the Florida Panthers (7:00 p.m. PT).

Canada West Soccer: (UNBC Timberwolves)

The season is over for the UNBC Timberwolves women’s soccer team.

The Timberwolves lost 2-1 on Friday to the Manitoba Bisons in a Canada West play-in game in Calgary.

The Bisons advance to play the host (10-1-3) Calgary Dinos in the quarterfinals today.

The Timberwolves ended their season with an overall record of 3-8-4.

The UNBC Timberwolves have earned four Canada West soccer awards.

Men’s goalie Rob Goodkey and women’s defender Mara McCleary were named second-team all-stars.

Freshman Reid Adams was selected to the men’s Canada West All-Rookie team.

The UNBC’s women’s soccer team captured the Canada West Fair Play award, given to the team that has the least cards throughout the season.

 

MLB: (World Series)

Alex Bregman’s five runs-batted-in led the way as the Astros beat the Nats in Game 4 of the World Series.

The best-of-seven series is tied 2-2, Game 5 goes tonight (5:07 p.m. PT) in Washington.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats  38  Montreal Alouettes  26

Quarterback Dane Evans threw four touchdowns on 379 yards to lead the Tiger-Cats to a victory over the Alouettes on Saturday afternoon in a potential East final preview.

Toronto Argonauts  39  Ottawa REDBLACKS  9

Quarterbacks McLeod Bethel-Thompson, Dakota Prukop and Canadian Michael O’Connor combined for five touchdown passes in the Argos’ win against a struggling Ottawa club on Saturday.

Saskatchewan Roughriders  27  Edmonton Eskimos  24

Brett Lauther nailed a 43-yard field goal with time expired as the Riders won their second game in a row, and fourth out of the last five, with a victory over the Eskimos.

Next weekend will mark the final week of the regular season schedule.

With a win over the Eskimos next Saturday, the Roughriders can secure first place in the West.

The (5-12) BC Lions will play their final game on November 2nd when they host Calgary.

Pascal Siakam scored 19 points, OG Anunoby added 17 and the Toronto Raptors spoiled Chicago’s home opener.

The (2-1) Toronto Raptors will return home to Scotiabank Arena to face the (1-1) Orlando Magic on Monday.

Toronto is currently fifth in the Eastern Conference.
