Seventh fire in under three weeks causes $25,000 in damages

An early morning structure fire on Ogilvie Street is the latest in a string of unrelated fires in Prince George.

At around 5:30 this morning (Sunday), 15 crew members from three halls of the Prince George Fire Rescue responded to a report of a fire on the 400 block of Ogilvie.

Crews quickly knocked down a small fire in the entrance of the two-story complex and ventilated smoke from all the suites, all of the building’s occupants were outside. Fire and smoke damage is estimated at $25,000.

This is the seventh fire in just under three weeks in the city. The worst of the fires came on October 12th when a blaze destroyed a home on Chilako Avenue, leaving one man dead and putting three in hospital. Deputy Fire Chief Blake King told MyPGNow earlier in the week that fires are often up to carelessness.

“There’s nothing that we can nail it down to. We went for quite a stretch with nothing major for some time,” said King. “It’s just kind of one of those things, it’s unexplainable.”

The investigation has been turned over to the RCMP.
