Giant size win for Cougars rookie goalie

Tyler Brennan has had two WHL starts.

Not only have both been wins, but he has been the first star in each game.

Sunday, before 3,736 fans in Langley, Brennan made 37 saves to play the key role in helping the Prince George Cougars end a four-game losing streak.

Ryan Schoettler scored his second goal of the season at 4:29 of overtime as the Cougars beat the Vancouver Giants 3-2.

Vancouver outshot PG 39-33 but the Cats never trailed.

Reid Perepeluk and Ilijah Colina tallied for the Cougars in the opening period before the (7-8-1) Giants came back with a couple of goals in the second from Tristen Nielsen and Jackson Shepard.

Brennan also played and did not give up a goal Saturday night in relief in a 5-2 loss to the Tri-City Americans.

The 16-year-old Brennan has a 2.08 goals-against average and a .924 save percentage.

He is now off for the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in Medicine Hat.

Taylor Gauthier allowed three goals on 13 shots before he left the game against the Americans with a lower-body injury late in the second period.

The last two Tri-City goals came into an empty net.

Gauthier was not healthy enough to dress against the Giants and is listed as day-to-day.

The (4-9-0-1) Cougars are last in the Western Conference but just two points behind the (5-5-1) Victoria Royals and (4-5-2-1) Seattle Thunderbirds.
