BC Assembly of First Nations reacts to Edward John charges

A statement has been issued by the BC Assembly of First Nations following the historical sexual offense charges against Edward John.

According to the BC Prosecution Service, the alleged incidents involving John, a Hereditary Chief of the Tl’azt’en First Nation, are said to have occurred between March 1st and September 15th of 1974 in the Prince George area.

On Thursday, Michael Klein was appointed Special Prosecutor in the case.

John’s first court appearance on the matter is scheduled for December 10th in Prince George Provincial Court.

Here is the statement from the BCAFN:

The BC Assembly of First Nations (BCAFN) is aware that Grand Chief Ed John has been arrested related to sexual offenses to have occurred in 1974. The accusation is a grave matter that must be taken very seriously, and which is now in the justice system.

BCAFN will not make further comments until this case has been concluded.
