Poisson plays the hero as Spruce Kings comeback to beat Bulldogs

Staring down a 3-0 deficit on the road, Nicholas Poisson took matters into his own hands and flipped the script.

The 18-year-old forward cued a heroic comeback for the Prince George Spruce Kings on Tuesday stinging the Alberni Valley Bulldogs 4-3 in Parksville.

After a scoreless opening 20 minutes, the Bulldogs blitzed the defending Fred Page and Doyle Cup champions in the middle frame as Stephen Castanga, Josh Pederson and Ryan Doolin all found the back of the net on Spruce Kings goaltender Jett Alexander.

Poisson started the long road back for PG on the power-play finishing off a Nolan Welsh feed lighting the lamp against Alberni Valley goaltender Jackson Glassford.

The Spruce Kings got within one before the intermission courtesy of Welsh who potted his eighth of the season.

In the third, PG kept its foot on the gas pedal as Jaxon Steel tied up the game 1:38 into the period from Corey Cunningham, which was then capped off by Poisson’s game-winner three and a half minutes later.

PG outshot the Bulldogs 41-33 who went 1-for-4 on the power-play.

The game was moved to Parksville due to an ammonia leak at the Weyerhaeuser Arena in Port Alberni.

The Spruce Kings (10-12-2-3) continue a stretch of five consecutive road games tonight when they take on the Nanaimo Clippers (18-6-1-1) from the Frank Crane Arena at 7:00 pm.

PG is two points up on the Langley Rivermen for third place in the Mainland Division after the Rivermen fell 4-3 at home to the Penticton Vees.
