Clay Hanus scored at 2:36 of overtime.
The Cougars led 3-1 in the third period before giving up three consecutive goals before 1,785 fans at CN Centre.
Prince George tied the game at 4 when Vladislav Mikhalchuk scored with 56 seconds left in regulation and goalie Taylor Gauthier on the bench for an extra attacker.
Portland was 3-for-5 on the power-play (and 4-for-7 with the man advantage in the doubleheader).
PG was 1-for-5 with its power-play.
