Prince George jobless rate rises to 6.4% in November: Stats Canada

More people found themselves employed in Prince George this November when compared to the same time last year.

Stats Canada unveiled its Labour Force survey today (Friday) and analyst Vince Ferrao spoke on the latest numbers for the northern capital.

“What we saw in the November data was that employment was up around 19-hundred, so we have around 48-thousand people working this November compared to 46,100 a year ago.”

As a result, the unemployment rate is 6.4%, which is up a full point from November of 2018.

Ferrao said it’s due to more people entering the workforce.

“The unemployment rate went up because there were more people who came into the labour force looking for work, some of them found work but not everybody.

In BC, the unemployment rate sits at 5.0% after November after being at 4.7% in October.

That’s lower than the national average of 5.9%.
