NHL: (12 Tuesday games)  Canadian teams went 4-2

Toronto  4  Vancouver  1

John Tavares scored twice and added an assist for the (15-13-4) Leafs, who are 2-0 on a four-game road trip.

The (15-12-4) Canucks are 2-2 on a five-game homestand that wraps up Thursday against the (19-11-1) Carolina Hurricanes.

The Hurricanes won 6-3 Tuesday in Edmonton.

Vancouver is 5th in the Pacific Division, three points behind Vegas and two ahead of San Jose.

The Flames are 6-0 since interim head coach Geoff Ward took over behind the bench.

The Dallas Stars won their first game under interim head coach Rick Bowness, 2-0 over New Jersey.

The (18-11-3) Stars sacked bench boss Jim Montgomery “due to unprofessional conduct.”

“This decision was made due to unprofessional conduct inconsistent with the core values and beliefs of the Dallas Stars and the National Hockey League, said Stars Gm Jim Nill.”

WHL: (PG Cougars)

The Prince George Cougars host the (15-9-2) Victoria Royals on Friday and Saturday.

The Cougars are home for the final time in 2019 on Saturday, in the Teddy Bear & Toque Toss game.

The Royals are 4-0 against the Cougars this season.

Victoria has won the last nine head-to-head games against Prince George.

The last time the Cougars beat the Royals was on December 2nd, 2018, which was the last Teddy Bear Toss game at CN Centre.

The (6-20-2-1) Cougars have lost five straight, scoring just seven goals over that stretch.

Prince George has a league-low 57 goals, which is just under two per game.

The Cougars have scored one or fewer goals in 10 of their 29 games (five times they have been shutout and five other times they have scored just once).

Prince George is 12 points behind the (12-12-2-1) Tri-City Americans for the last Western Conference wild-card spot.

(PG Spruce Kings)

The Prince George Spruce Kings are 0-3 on a five-game homestand that continues Friday and Saturday against the BCHL-leading (28-5) Coquitlam Express.

Friday will be the Spruce Kings annual Drop The Gloves and Sock It To ‘Em Game!

The (11-18-2-3) Spruce Kings are last in the Mainland Division, four points behind the (13-16-2-3) Surrey Eagles and five points back of the (15-15-0-1-1) Langley Rivermen.

BC Major Midget League: (Cariboo Cougars)

The Cariboo Cougars are idle until they visit the (7-14-1) South Island Royals Dec. 21st (6:30 p.m.) and 22nd (10:30 a.m.) in Saanich.

The (15-5-1-1) Major Midget Cougars are in third place in the 11-team BCMML, a point ahead of
the (15-6-0-1) Fraser Valley Thunderbirds.

MLB:

The New York Yankees made a big splash by coming to terms with free-agent pitcher Gerrit Cole on a record $324 million, nine-year contract.

Cole’s deal topped the $245 million, seven-year contract Stephen Strasburg finalized this week with the World Series champion Washington Nationals.

Its $36 million average is a record for any player.

A 29-year-old right-hander, Cole went 20-5 with a 2.50 ERA and a major league-high 326 strikeouts this past season with the Houston Astros.

 

NBA:

Kawhi Leonard will be presented with his championship ring tonight.

Leonard is back in Toronto for a much-anticipated game between the (18-7) LA Clippers and the (16-7) Raptors.

Snowboard Cross-World Cup:

A pair of Prince George athletes, Colby Graham and Meryeta O’Dine, are set for international competition.

Both are part of the Canadian team that competes at the Snowboard Cross World Cup in Montafon, Austria Thursday and Friday.

 

NFL: (Week 15)

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson plans to play Thursday against the visiting New York Jets despite being limited the past two practices with a quad injury.

The 11-2 Ravens have won nine straight.
