Operation Red Nose prepares for New Year’s

Operation Red Nose is entering its fourth week of operation and the final weekend before the holidays.

There will be 17 volunteer teams out this weekend (December 20th-21st) to provide safe rides home to party-goers.

This time last year the designated driver service offered a total of 216 rides over the span of weekend four.

Operation Red Nose Spokesperson Andrea Johnson said the number is expected to rise this week, and predictions for New Year’s Eve are even higher.

“We are looking forward to another busy weekend, our final one before Christmas and New Year’s Eve,”

“Our volunteers have been fantastic and have had a great time.”

The all-time record for week four rides was in 2010, where teams provided a total of 319 rides.

Johnson noted last weekend has been the busiest of the year so far.

A total of 18 teams will be available for the evening, but Johnson stated 54 more volunteers are needed to meet the expected demand.

Interested volunteers have to be at least 19, with a valid B.C. driver’s license.
