Gauthier sharp in Cougars net but Kindree scores OT winner for Rockets

Three points in three road games (1-1-1) since Christmas for the Prince George Cougars.

The Cougars, thanks in part to a solid goaltending performance from Taylor Gauthier, earned one point in a 3-2 Monday night overtime loss to the Rockets before 5,453 fans in Kelowna.

Gauthier made 30 saves as Kelowna outshot P.G. 33-17, including 16-1 in the scoreless third.

Liam Kindree ended the drama when he scored with three seconds left in overtime for the (19-13-1-2) Rockets.

The Cougars trailed 2-0 until Cole Moberg (5th) scored on a 5-on-3 power play late in the first.

Connor Bowie (7th) tied the game at 11:42 of the second with the Cougars first shorthanded goal of the season.

The Cats lost forward Reid Perepeluk at 8:15 of the third when he was given a five-minute Major for Kneeing and a Game Misconduct.
Earlier on the road trip, Prince George beat Everett 4-3 Friday but lost 5-1 to Victoria Saturday.

The Cougars will start 2020 with home games against the (25-8-2) Everett Silvertips Friday and Saturday.

The (9-21-2-3) Cougars are 6 points behind the (12-16-4-1) Tri-City Americans and the
(13-18-2-1) Seattle Thunderbirds, who share the final Western Conference wild-card spot.

The Cariboo Cougars will play the Okanagan Rockets today (11 a.m. PT) in the quarter finals at the Mac’s AAA Midget Hockey Tournament in Calgary.

The winner advances to the semi-finals of the 25-team international competition.

Both teams finished 3-1 in round-robin play.

Okanagan came first in Pool 3 while Cariboo was second in Pool 4 behind the (3-0-1) Moose Jaw Warriors.

The Rockets are 20-2-1-1 and in first place in the 11-team BCMML while the Cougars are 3rd with a record of 17-5-1-1.

The Cougars started the Mac’s Tournament with a 7-2 win Thursday over the Airdrie CFR Bisons, then fell 3-2 to the Moose Jaw Warriors Friday and bounced back with a 5-1 victory over the Calgary Royals on Saturday and a 3-2 win over the St. Albert Nektar Raiders on Sunday.
