“We are going to have to stay in city limits”: New Year’s Eve looms for Operation Red Nose

It is predicted to be the busiest night of the season for Operation Red Nose.

There will be 25 teams of volunteers patrolling the streets tonight according to Spokesperson Andrea Johnson.

“So far we have provided 750 rides in 8 nights,” she said.

She explained the plan of attack for this evening is different from previous nights.

“Typically we go outside of city limits. But, because we only have 25 road teams we are going to have to stay within Prince George,” she said.

“So we won’t be going to Tabor lake, we won’t be going out to Salmon Valley, we will have a map at dispatch and will double check when people call, that we can actually pick them up.”

She explained the phone calls start around 11:30 pm and don’t stop until after 4 am.

According to the operation, road teams take between 10-15 calls a night on average, and it expects that number to rise to 10-20 per team if everything runs smoothly.

“We are just asking everyone to be patient tonight, we expect there will be some wait time,” she added.

An update with the final numbers will be available on the morning of January 3rd (Friday).
