Silvertips cash in early to earn weekend split against the Cougars

Not often does a team score on its first two shots.

The Everett Silvertips made an early statement right after puck drop with goals a minute apart at 1:03, from Ronan Seely, and at 2:03, from Jake Christiansen of the opening period.

Everett would go on for a convincing 5-2 triumph over the Prince George Cougars in front of 2,267 fans at CN Centre.

The (26-9-2-1) Silvertips, 30 points ahead of Prince George in the standings, had plenty of motivation on their side as they lost their previous two games this season against the Cougars, including 4-3 on Friday night.

Everett also got a pair of goals in the second period just 2:06 apart from Cole Fonstad (at 11:46) and Jackson Berezowski (at 13:52).

The other Everett goal came from Conrad Mitchell early in the third.

Nikita Krivokrasov and Jack Sander tallied for the Cats and Tyler Brennan made 30 saves as Everett outshot PG 35-21.

The (10-22-2-3) Cougars are 6 points behind the (13-17-4-1) Tri-City Americans and the (14-20-2-1) Seattle Thunderbirds in the race for the final Western Conference wild-card spot.

The Cougars head out for a six-game East Division road trip that starts Wednesday in Regina.

They also make stops in Prince Albert, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, Brandon, and Moose Jaw.
