The Canadians rallied from a 3-1 third period deficit to secure the country’s 18th gold medal at the world junior hockey championship.
Akil Thomas scored the winner with 3:58 left in regulation.
Captain Barrett Hayton, battling through a shoulder injury, tied the game at 3 on a power play.

Joel Hofer, the tournament’s all-star goalie, made 35 saves for a fifth straight victory.
Alexis Lafreniere had two assists in the final and was named tournament MVP with four goals and six assists in five games.
The Russians, who have now lost four finals since last winning gold in 2011, have 10 silver medals since 1995.
Mitch Love of Quesnel, the head coach of the Saskatoon Blades, was one of the assistant coaches for Team Canada under head coach Dale Hunter.

In the semifinals, Canada skunked Finland 5-0 and Russia got by Sweden 5-4 in overtime.

WHL: (PG Cougars)
The Prince George Cougars split their two home games against Everett.
The Cougars won 4-3 Friday before the Silvertips came back with a 5-2 victory Saturday.
Prince George heads out for a six-game East Division road trip that starts Wednesday in Regina.
They also play in Prince Albert Friday, Saskatoon Saturday, Winnipeg on Tuesday, Jan. 14th, Brandon on Wednesday the 15th and Moose Jaw on Friday the 17th.
The (10-22-2-3) Cougars are 6 points behind the (13-18-4-1) Tri-City Americans and eight points back of the (15-20-2-1) Seattle Thunderbirds in the race for the final Western Conference wild-card spot.
Seattle won on Sunday 4-2 in Swift Current while Tri-City lost at home to Kelowna 7-3.
