Cougars settle for a point (again) after OT loss to PA

The Prince George Cougars continue to struggle once they go beyond regulation time with just one win in eight games (1-3-4).

Matthew Culling scored at 3:34 of overtime to give the Prince Albert Raiders a 2-1 victory over Prince George.

The Cougars have two points after two games on their East Division road trip as they began with a 5-4 shootout loss in Regina.

Friday night in P.A. before 2,580 fans at the Art Hauser Centre, Taylor Gauthier made 38 saves as Prince Albert outshot Prince George 40-21, including 20-3 in the third and overtime.

It was just the second win in their last 11 games for the (22-14-5-1) Raiders, who moved into first place in the East Division, but only a point ahead of Winnipeg with the Ice holding two games in hand.

In his first game in a P.G. uniform, Jonny Hooker scored his ninth of the season on a power play at 2:07 of the third to tie the game at 1.

The 18-year-old Hooker was acquired from the Brandon Wheat Kings for 19-year-old forward Reid Perepeluk in one of two deals the Cougars made Thursday night prior to the January 10th trade deadline.

The Cougars play tonight in Saskatoon against Rhett Rheinhart and the Blades.

P.G. sent Rheinhart and a third-round Bantam pick to Saskatoon for a first-round Bantam pick,  defenceman Majid Kaddoura and the rights to unsigned 2003-born forward Jayden Watson.

Maddoura made his Cats debut against the Raiders.

Prince George will also play Tuesday in Winnipeg, Wednesday in Brandon before concluding the trip Friday in Moose Jaw.

The (10-22-3-4) Cougars are eight points behind the (16-20-2-1) Seattle Thunderbirds for the final Western Conference wild-card spot.
