WHL: (PG Cougars)

Prince George Cougars  3  Moose Jaw Warriors  2

In his 43rd game, Craig Armstrong scored his first WHL goal and it turned out to be the winner at 11:32 of the second period.

Cole Moberg (6) scored a goal and set up the winner while Mitch Kohner (6) tallied just 2:14 into the game for Prince George, his first goal since November 23rd.

Tyler Brennan made 28 saves for his fourth victory as P.G. outshot Moose Jaw 34-30 before
2,662 fans.

Prince George picked up six points on their six-game East Division road trip going 2-2-1-1.

The (12-24-3-4) Cougars are eight points behind the (18-20-2-1) Seattle Thunderbirds for the final Western Conference wild-card spot.

The Cats are also two points back of the (14-22-4-1) Tri-City Americans.

The Cougars play their next six games at CN Centre starting with a doubleheader against the BC Division-leading Kamloops Blazers on Friday and Saturday (January 24th and 25th).

BCHL: (PG Spruce Kings)

Prince George Spruce Kings  4  Langley Rivermen  2

Nicholas Poisson snapped a 2-2 tie with a pair of late third period goals, one on the power play and the other into an empty net.

The Spruce Kings ended a seven-game home losing streak before 1,657 fans on Mohawk night at the RMCA.

Prince George is 6-0 this season against Langley.

The Spruce Kings play their next six games on the road beginning Wednesday in Coquitlam against the BCHL-leading Express.

With 14 regular-season games left, the (15-24-2-3) Spruce Kings are last in the Mainland Division, six points behind the (19-21-1-1-1) Langley Rivermen and seven points back of the
(18-20-2-4) Surrey Eagles.

BCMML: (Cariboo Cougars)

The Cariboo Cougars and the Northern Capitals are in Fort St. James this weekend to compete in the Winter Classic.

The Major Midget Cougars host the (20-7-0-1) Vancouver NW Hawks tonight at 5:30 on outdoor ice at Ernie Sam Memorial Arena, located on Nak’azdli Whut’en territory, and Sunday afternoon at 12:30 at the Fort Forum.

The (17-7-1-1) Cougars are in fifth place in the 11-team BCMML, two points behind the Vancouver NE Chiefs, four points back of the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds, five behind the Vancouver NW Hawks and 10 back of the (22-2-1-1) Okanagan Rockets.

The (10-8-2) Capitals, of the B.C. Hockey Female Midget AAA League, will face the (17-1) Greater Vancouver Comets outdoors Sunday morning at 9:00 at the Ernie Sam Memorial Arena.

The two teams played Friday night in Vanderhoof with Greater Vancouver winning 8-2.

The Capitals and Comets meet again this afternoon indoors at 2:00 at the Fort Forum.

NHL: (3 Friday games)

The Vancouver Canucks put their seven-game home win streak on the line when they entertain the (21-24-4) San Jose Sharks tonight.

The (26-18-4) Canucks are tied with Vegas for third in the Pacific Division, only a point behind Calgary and Arizona and just a point in front of Edmonton.

Maria Mongomo hooped 35 points to become the Timberwolves all-time leading scorer.

Tyrell Laing of Prince George scored a career-high 30 points in a losing effort.

The Timberwolves play again tonight against UBC Okanagan in Kelowna.

Both UNBC teams are 4-9.

Both UBCO teams are 2-13.

NBA:

Toronto Raptors  140  Washington Wizards  111

The (27-14) Raptors play again tonight in Minnesota against the (15-26) Timberwolves.

Toronto is 4th in the Eastern Conference.

NFL:

The NFL Conference champions will be decided on Sunday.

Tennessee visits Kansas City (12:05 p.m. PT) in the AFC followed by Green Bay at San Francisco (3:40 p.m.) in the NFC.

The winners advance to the Super Bowl on Sunday, Feb. 2nd in Miami.

The Chiefs and 49’ers are favoured by 7 1/2 points.
