Mild weather to continue to shine down on Prince George this week

While it may not be shorts weather outside, the above-seasonal conditions we’ve experienced in Prince George should stick around for another week.

Temperatures are predicted to range between minus one and plus five, which is quite a bit warmer for this time of year according to Environment Canada Meteorologist, Doug Lundquist.

“That’s about ten degrees above average for Prince George, there will be cooler days with the impulses that are coming like tomorrow where we are only expecting a high of about zero but that’s still way above average by about five degrees.”

“Mild weather comes off the Pacific Ocean, that’s what’s happening here for the next several days, at least until the end of the weekend. We are going to have some days where the winds will pick up from out of the south. We could see it get to five degrees at least today and Wednesday.”

As for what the February outlook is for the northern capital, Lundquist says it could go either way.

“The likelihood is that we will be wavering above and below the averages so there was no clear cut category chosen for the long-range.”

Lundquist cautions residents to be careful when walking outside, especially in the morning with ice still present on several parking lots and sidewalks.

“Just to stay safe when you’re walking or driving there might be some icy patches out there, even though it’s nicer now we have to remember that until the ice is completely melted to stay safe on the roads and walking and such.”

He adds Prince George will see a temperature change early next week so Sunday or Monday we will have a deeper system crossing, little bit of a temporary outbreak that will last two or three days before warming up again next week.
