Police dog and civilian help PG RCMP to get their man

One man is in custody following a suspicious person report that resulted in a foot chase early yesterday (Sunday) morning.

At approximately 1:35 AM, the Prince George RCMP received a report of a suspicious male exiting a driveway on Dalhousie Drive, according to Cpl. Craig Douglass.

Within minutes, a frontline officer located a person matching the suspect’s description.

The individual was breaking into a vehicle near the corner of McGill Crescent and Simon Fraser Drive.

As the officer approached, the suspect fled through the back of the residence, down an embankment and across Highway 16, starting a foot chase.

A member of the public driving on Highway 16 down Peden Hill observed the foot chase, stopped, and offered a ride down the hill to the pursuing officer.

A team from the Prince George RCMP’s Police Dog Services Section arrived to assist, and the suspect was tracked through brush, through fences, and on to the top of a commercial storage facility.

Personal and stolen items were found on the track.

The suspect was found hiding under a trailer by ‘Kash’, a Police Service Dog just before 2:30 am.

The suspect continued to resist arrest despite the presence of a police dog and officers but was taken into custody shortly after.

Twenty-eight-year-old Davin Gray Jokinen has been charged by the BC Prosecution Service with the following Criminal Code offenses:

  • Trespass at night
  • Possession of break-in instruments
  • Resist arrest (2 counts)
  • Fail to comply with probation (3 counts)
  • Fail to comply with conditions of release

Jokinen is relatively new to Prince George and previously resided in Quesnel and Dawson Creek, and well known to police in all three communities.

He has been remanded in custody and will appear in court Wednesday.
