Former MP Nathan Cullen to act as middle-man between province and Wet’suwet’en

Premier John Horgan has appointed former Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP Nathan Cullen as a liaison between the Wet’suwet’ en Nation and the Provincial Government.

Cullen is tasked with acting as an intermediary by providing fact-finding, facilitation, and analysis to support a peaceful resolution to the Coastal Gaslink dispute.

According to CGL President David Pfeiffer, CGL is hoping for a peaceful resolution to the dispute, but “time is running short.”

“I am pleased that Premier John Horgan has appointed Nathan Cullen as a liaison between the Province and the Wet’suwet’en Hereditary Chiefs and remain hopeful that the Chiefs will meet with Coastal GasLink and find a peaceful resolution to the current situation,” explained Pfeiffer.

A blockade was placed earlier this month at the 27-kilometre mark of Morice West Forest Service Road (MWFS), but Pfeiffer maintains that has not affected the schedule.

According to the Provincial Government, Cullen will work with the Wet’suwet’en Denezeh and Tsakozeh, RCMP, CGL, and the provincial public service.

His focus will be on de-escalating the conflict surrounding the court-ordered interlocutory injunction regarding access to the MWFS Road.

Cullen served as a Member of Parliament from 2004 until 2019.
