NFL: (Super Bowl 54 in Miami)

Kansas City Chiefs  31  San Francisco 49’ers  20

Led by Game MVP Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs erased a 20-10 deficit in the 4th quarter by scoring three touchdowns in the final seven minutes of the game.

It is the first Super Bowl title for Kansas City in 50 years.

The 24-year-old Mahomes, the youngest player to capture a Super Bowl MVP award, finished 26 of 42 for 286 yards, two TD’s, two interceptions and he also had a 1-yard touchdown run.

The Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl parade will take place on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. PT.

The odds for winning Super Bowl 55 on February 7th, 2021 in Tampa Bay are out.

Kansas City is listed 7/1 followed by Baltimore and San Francisco at 8/1 & New Orleans at 10/1.

WHL: (PG Cougars)

The Prince George Cougars are 2-2 on a six-game homestand after they split a pair against the Tri-City Americans.

The Cougars won 5-1 before the Americans came back for a 3-2 victory as Tri-City snapped an
eight-game losing streak.

The Americans scored all three of their goals on the power play.

Mason Dunsford made 37 saves in the Tri-City net for his first WHL win before 2,231 fans at CN Centre.

The Cougars exploded with four unanswered goals in the first eight minutes of the third period to break a 1-1 tie before 2,126 fans at CN Centre.

The (14-26-3-4) Cougars are 10 points behind the (20-22-3-2) Seattle Thunderbirds for the final Western Conference wild-card playoff spot.

Both teams have 21 games remaining, including four against each other.

Prince George will host Seattle on Tuesday and Wednesday.

BCHL: (PG Spruce Kings)

The Prince George Spruce Kings went 2-4 on a six-game road trip, which ended with a 3-1 triumph over West Kelowna, a day after they dropped a 2-1 decision in Vernon.

Carter Woodside made 24 saves for the Spruce Kings, who ended a four-game losing streak.

The Vipers scored the winning goal with 17 seconds left in the third period.

The Spruce Kings, with just eight regular-season games left, host the (24-22-3-1) Wenatchee Wild on Wednesday and the (10-35-1-3) Merritt Centennials on Friday.

The (17-28-2-3) Spruce Kings are last in the Mainland Division, 7 points behind the
(21-24-2-1-1) Langley Rivermen.

In the overall BCHL standings, P.G. is 15th out of 17 and in a playoff spot with 39 points followed by West Kelowna with 36 and the Merritt Centennials with 24.

With 16 of the 17 teams to qualify for the postseason, it appears that Merritt will be the odd team out.

BCMML: (Cariboo Cougars)

The Cariboo Cougars won both of their games over the South Island Royals 5-3 and 7-0 at the BCMML showcase in Kelowna.

Kenny Gerow made 26 saves for the shutout.

The (20-10-1-1) Cougars are in 5th place in the 11-team league and will play their last eight regular-season games at home at Kin 1.

Cariboo will host the (7-26-0-1) Greater Vancouver Canadians Saturday at 4:30 p.m. and Sunday at 10:30 a.m.

NHL: (3 Sunday games)

Carolina Hurricanes  4  Vancouver Canucks  3  (SO)

The loss ended the Canucks five-game win streak, but Vancouver has still picked up five out of a possible six points on a five-game road trip.

The (30-18-5) Canucks play at Boston on Tuesday (4:00 p.m. PT) and at Minnesota on Thursday (5:00 p.m. PT).

Vancouver leads the Pacific Division by three points over Edmonton, four over Vegas and five
over Calgary.

Curling: 

Corryn Brown of Kamloops, in the women’s division, and Jim Cotter of Vernon and Kelowna, in the men’s division, both won provincial curling championships in Cranbrook.

In the women’s final, Brown beat defending BC Scotties champion Sarah Wark of Abbotsford 8-7 in an extra end.

Brown scored two in the 10th and stole the winning point in the extra end.

The Wark team included third Kristen Pilote, second Carley Sandwith, lead Jen Rusnell and coach Rick Fewster.

Fewster is from Prince George and his daughters, Pilote and Rusnell are originally from PG.

Brown will now represent the province in Moose Jaw at the Canadian Scotties Tournament of Hearts from Feb. 15-23, with the winner of that representing Canada at World Women’s Curling Championship in Prince George March 14-22.

In the men’s final, defending champion Jim Cotter won a record 9th B.C. title defeating Tyler Tardi of Langley and Victoria 10-6.

Cotter will represent BC at the Tim Hortons Brier in Kingston, Ont., from Feb. 29 to Mar. 8.

Canada West Basketball: (UNBC Timberwolves)

The streaks continued for the UNBC Timberwolves in Canada West basketball.

The UNBC women won both games at Regina to extend their win streak to six and clinch a playoff spot.

The UNBC men lost both games to Regina extending their losing streak to 11 games.

The 4-14 UNBC men are in 13th spot.

The top 12 teams advance to the playoffs.

Regina is 8-10 (women) and 9-9 (men).

MacEwan is 2-16 (women) and 2-16 (men).

NBA:

Toronto Raptors  129  Chicago Bulls  102

The (36-14) Raptors extended their win streak to a club-record tying 11 games.

Toronto is second in the NBA Eastern Conference.

The Raptors play their next two games against the (31-18) Pacers, Wednesday in Toronto (4:30 PT) and Friday (5:00 PT) in Indiana.

Australian Open: (Tennis)

Novak Djokovic won his record 8th Australian Open after a come-from-behind victory over #5 Dominic Thiem in the men’s final.

The 32-year-old Djokovic took the 5th and deciding set 6-4 to capture his 17th Major.

Roger Federer has the most Grand Slam wins with 20 followed by Rafael Nadal with 19.

On the women’s side, Sofia Kenin captured her first Major as the 14th-seeded American beat Garbine Muguruza of Spain in the final 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.
